Natural child birth and the imporatnce of forming a team. How to help rid the fear of a natural birthing experience
I am a first time pregnant mommy at 28 years old. I am a Holistic Health Practitioner and have been practicing holistic nutrition for 6 years. When I found out I was pregnant, I knew I was going to have a natural birthing experience.
Of course other moms want to tell me their experience and how horrible it was and try to warn me and understand why I wouldn't chose to have an epidural. I just ignore them and continue on my way to having a natural birth. If you are pregnant and are thinking about having it naturally here is a list of practitioners you want in your life as a support team for you and your baby.
All three of these will help to make your experience for you and baby very calm and help to cut your laboring time back. By taking advantage of all 3 practitioners, the fear in my mind slowly goes away.
Having good nutrition in your life helps to prevent diseases but also helps you and baby grow in a very strong and healthy manor. It is so important to make sure you and your baby are ingesting healthy prenatal vitamins and in taking the proper amounts of nutrients such as carbohydrates and proteins. Carbohydrates and proteins are 2 major building blocks for baby’s growth. Calcium is also very important to help build your baby. Pregnant women should ingest 80-100 grams of protein each day. It is important that your holistic nutritionist knows what you are eating so I or they can help you in areas you need help improving or decreasing in. Standard Process Supplements allow for you and your baby to grow healthy strong bones, teeth, hormones, skin, eyes, spine, digestive tract and entire well being. Our world is filled with refined carbohydrates, white refined sugar and very little fiber in our diets. As a Holistic Nutritionist I will insure that you are taking the proper supplements (vitamins and nutrients) and that you are absorbing them, which is key. I will attend to any morning sickness, constipation and any concern you are having during your time of pregnancy. Lord knows I have had my fair share of everything so I am ready and equipped to tackle them :) Talking to your partner and your practitioners are key to having a successful birth. Please do not hold anything inside, it will only bring about fear and anxiety on the day you give birth and you will pass those fears and anxieties on to baby.
Seeing a chiropractor will help to align your posture which helps ease labor when that day arrives. Having a chiropractor involved in your pregnancy is very important. Dr. Zappala has a special table where you can lay face down even when you are at full term. His adjustments will help to line up your pelvis making it easier for your uterus to soften and open up for delivery. This also helps to relieve any back, neck or body pain associated with pregnancy. My experience with Dr. Zappala has been great! I started with a painful neck and low back, especially my lower right side. In just a few short months Dr. Zappala has helped to ease my pain all over, and I get a great good night sleep! I used to wake up because my neck bothered me. Now I sleep through the night waking up feeling refreshed.
My pregnancy has taught me so much on how to care for my self and who I can trust to care for me and my baby.
By seeing an acupuncturist, Christabel Tabbada, she helps to make sure you are relaxed and not uptight. It is so important to share with her your areas of concern and what is going on with you. She is a great listener and will administer the needles according to your needs. I am very afraid of needles and these do not hurt what so ever. My personal experience with Christabel has been fantastic! She focuses on birthing mommies and has so much knowledge to share with me and other moms which helps me to overcome any anxiety or fear that may be there. She also helps to turn breached babies and induces mommies naturally through acupuncture.
The other things I recommend are to look into hypnobabies and yoga. By doing prenatal yoga along with my chiropractic visits with Dr. Zappala, it has cut back and neck pain in half to almost none for me. Try and do yoga at least 1x per day. This will also help to stretch ligaments and your pelvis to prepare for delivery day. Hypnobabies is a class that will help you and your partner connect and get through your natural delivery. I heard about a woman in Russia that was having a natural birth to which she was in pain, all of a sudden she turned her pain into pleasure in her mind. As soon as she flipped her mind from pain to pleasure for her baby's birth, pain was not the focus, her birth was. She could feel pressure but she was not in agony. Hypnobabies helps you to really steer clear of fear in your mind and to help stay focused on the fact that your baby is coming into this world which is a joyous event!
I hope I have helped with any pregnant mommies out there. Just remember to not go through this alone. Even if you are having a hospital birth, a team is still very important to have on your side. Being pregnant always scared me until it happened to me and I started adding in my team of experts!
