A properly performed squat is one of the best exercises of all time. It improves core stability by strengthening the hip muscles, low back and abdominal stabilizers. There are many factors to consider in determining if you are healthy enough to perform a proper squat. These include, from the ground up: ankle flexibility, knee alignment or Q-angle, hip strength, lower back strength and abdominal wall strength.
Flexibility is also an important factor. If, for example, your calves are too tight your heels might lift up when trying to descend into a squat position. A squat assessment is important in determining if you are capable of performing the exercise safely and correctly. Our chiropractors Dr. Zappala and Dr. Amstutz treat athletes and are uniqely qualified to make such an assessment. To schedule your fitness assessment, please contact one of concierges at (949) 631-5226 ext 10.
The embedded video demonstrates an advanced squat in which the athlete is performing a full depth squat with a 5 second pause at the bottom and chains to add to the eccentric loading of the quadriceps on the ascent.
